All this bullshit about declawing your cats being inhumane is totally true IF it is done inhumanely!! Declawing cats before 10 weeks is like a human infant having a big surgery. They are very young and do not remember it! What human remembers the trauma and stress of an open heart surgery they had as an infant?? None. But as a 10 year old? Sure. Maybe even as a 5 year old but not as a baby. Don’t get your cats declawed after 10 weeks old, 12 weeks tops! End rant.
"They won’t remember it!!!!" I’m sorry but do you think the fact that they don’t have the first bone in their toes is something an animal with instincts built in to use its toes and claws for quite literally EVERYTHING is something that a kitten is just going to ~forget~ once the bones are actually removed???????
De-clawing is not like “open heart surgery on a baby lol”. It does NOTHING but hurt the cat. There are NO HEALTH BENEFITS to 99.9999999% of de-clawed cats— the ONLY time it helps is when they have deformed toes or tumours in their nail beds. But how many cat owners do you know who de-clawed their cats for those reasons??? I’m guessing a pretty safe estimate is zero.
People de-claw their cats because they’re afraid of their precious furniture getting destroyed.
And reguardless of when you got your cat de-clawed, whether at six weeks or ten years, de-clawing can fuck them both mentally AND physically at ANY TIME. They can start avoiding the litterbox at any point in their lives. They can go from seemingly normal cats to being skittish and bitey at any time. At any point, little bone fragments could cause painful infections in their paws, and their nails can start growing back under the skin. Not to mention that the younger they get declawed, the worse their arthritis will be later in life??
These issues don’t ~go away~ after a cat gets de-clawed— they START there. To believe anything else is fucking asenine.
De-clawing is cruel at ANY age. Don’t get your cats de-clawed EVER.
Everything said here is true.
You are removing the first digit of their toes, an entire bone. There is no excuse for that. Vets all across the country are starting to refuse to prform the surgery and the aspca is staunchly opposed to it.
And for good reason. It’ inhumane and done by people too lazy to train their cats not to claw.
